I'm finishing up my sessions for this year, before the cold weather hits and I start procrastinating my Christmas shopping. I realize that I am majorly behind on posting, so settle in for a record-breaker. All of these sessions were so much fun! Such beautiful children. I love each one of these. I will miss my camera these next few months, and I'm sure I will be itching to get started again this spring.

Also, my website is a disaster at the moment. It's embarrassing. I'll try to get my act together pronto. Or as soon as I find time. (So it might be awhile folks!)

I met an awesome family, dear internet friends. Their five kids are all beautiful and so polite, and best of all, very photogenic! Mom and Dad did a great job as well. Such a neat family! This was a pretty impromtu session, taken down in Westphalia at the church. I love those church doors!!

New Product!

I have a new product to share! Aside from photography, I'm also a total Photoshop junkie. I can sit for HOURS and play and create in Photoshop. It's really an addiction, and my husband is considering admitting me. :)

I really didn't INVENT this idea myself, it came from an awesome photographer's blog (Lyndsay Stradtner) but I decided to try it out. These are so creative!! Love it. You can do kids names or any other meaningful words. These are 10x20's and mounted on light-weight styrene so your display options are endless! Lean on a shelf, frame, or even velcro to the wall! Here's how they turned out... and beware, I'm a horrible product photographer and I didn't remove these from the plastic packaging before taking the picture.

My daughter Emma is obsessed with all things pink, girly, dress-up, and Taylor Swift. She knows all the Taylor songs on the radio and can sing them word for word! She's such a little performer, always dancing and singing. So when I told her we were going to go take some pictures in her "Taylor Swift" outfit she was so excited!

I was happy to get a little spurt of business over the weekend! I've got a bunch of pictures to share so let's just get to it, shall we?

First, my sister-in-law brought her clan over for a shoot in the backyard. They are so much fun and I love seeing the kids.

Kayla, the oldest. The Queen Bee. Such a good kid. Love her eyes, her and Emma resemble each other I think.

Ashley, the sweetheart. She looks so much like her daddy.

Tyler, the boy. I swear, this kid cannot take a bad picture. Sooooo cute.

Hayley, the baby. But not so much a baby anymore. All growed up... and a princess.

I absolutely love this family picture of them!! Mom and dad are laughing because one of the kids burped.

Aren't they such a cute family? Now, on to my seniors. First, the twins again. They wanted some spring pictures to pass out at graduation. We were in a rush to get them done so an old ladder in my backyard served as a prop.

And here's Rachel, my other senior. She has the most beautiful green eyes ever. Her and I ventured to Mokane for some of these shots. I found an old building that has windows broken out of it - just what I've been looking for!!

Birthday Snow Cones!

Emma turned 3 this past weekend. I know, I can't believe it either. Where did my baby girl go to? She's all about the 'big girl' phase right now. Its like, "Mom, pulleese, I can go potty by myself!" She even wants me to shut the door so she can have privacy!! She's 3! She's grown up quite a bit just since the arrival of baby brother. Ay yi yi... I'm going to have a hard road ahead with all of this growing up business.

Flowers are a bloomin' and the grass is getting tall....I love this time of year. I decided to get a refreshing face-lift...a new logo, a new website, and a new camera!! This calls for a celebration! Okay, so I lied. Whatev, I'm a woman and a VERY pregnant one at that. So I'm allowed a little fib. I thought I wouldn't be doing anymore photog stuff until Baybee was born, but I was sooo thrilled when my favorite friend said she wanted some snaps taken of her two A-flippin'-DORABLE boys. It was so fun on a very feels-like-spring-is-almost-here day, and it also gave me a tiny glimpse into the world-o-boys. Because you know, I will have one very soon!

Tah-Daaaah!! So, whatcha think? Thanks goes to my old pal Julia who gave me some inside tips on how to create a fabulous Photoblog with ginormous pictures!! Also, my website is up and running now and looks so different! I love the fresh, clean look. I'm still working on adding a new feature where my clients can view and order pics directly from my site. Yay!

Now, onto the pics... I actually got to get out and dust off the lens this past weekend. I was so excited to take some senior pictures for these two lovelies. They are identical twins and are the cutest, sweetest things ever! I love how even though they are twins they each have their own cool personality and it really shines through in the pics. Thanks for everything girls - I can't wait for this spring when we can play more!

I've got the itch!

I'm baaaaaackkk!! Well, at least until I pop. Er, I mean, pop out this kid that is taking over my body!! I guess you could call it the third trimester I'm-going-to-go-insane-if-I-don't-occupy-myself-for-the-next-six-weeks symptom, or whatev. Anyways, for some odd reason I've got the photography itch. I think perhaps because I'm finished with everything that is NEW BABY - the room is done, the clothes are washed, the diapers are bought, the bags are packed, the car seat is installed... what's left? Honestly, I'm just kinda bored at this point. So I figured I could get some things accomplished while I wait, and wait, and wait....

Here's a list of what I've been working on and new ideas for 2009!

- NEW LOGO... check! It's so freaking awesome. I love it. Totally ME.

- WEBSITE MAKE-OVER...check! Well, I expect to be up and running within the next week, so check back for updates! It's also the bomb with all new pictures and some new features!

- NEW BROCHURES...work-in-progress. Gah, I love brochures. They are such a good marketing tool! This one will probably take me awhile because I'm such a perfectionist and I tend to get a little carried away.

- NEW FACES...Calling all models!! When I decide to start shooting again (probably around first of April) I will be looking for senior girls/guys to practice on. I'd REALLY LOVE to start doing more seniors this summer and I need a few senior models to help spread the word.

- WORKSHOP...My sweet husband is sooo supportive of my passion/business. Bless his heart, although I think he's a wee jealous that none of his hobbies provide a second income. But he SAID that he would be supportive if I decided to go to an awesome workshop, which is pretty much what I've been dreaming of since starting this biz. I'm talking a BIG NAME workshop probably in the obscene $$$ range and somewhere far enough to require a plane ticket. P.S. - NO KIDS ALLOWED! Keep in mind that my husband has taken 2 Canada fishing trips in the past 3 years and I've barely left our zip code. So, my turn :)

- NEW EQUIPMENT...I would like to purchase a new camera. Not just any camera, the MOTHER OF ALL CAMERAS - the Queen herself, the Canon 5D. Squeeee!! Just thinking about her makes my mouth water. Of course she costs an arm, a leg and possibly a kidney, but she's soooo worth it! So, we'll see. If nothing else, a new lens might do.

So there's my game plan. I'm glad I just wrote it all down so I won't forget in between feedings and diaper changes. Hopefully my next post will involve a picture of my new little guy!

Sorry folks, it's been a loooong time since I've posted! Geez, I doubt if anyone evens reads this blog anymore... you all have probably given up on me! But I'm still around, and still shooting pictures when I can. I did take some time off for awhile and now that winter temperatures are arriving I will probably not see much business. Most of you know that I'm going to be expanding my family so I'm just kind of doing whatever I like, whenever I please, as far as business goes. Looking back on the past year (I started my business back in March), I can't believe how far I've come and how many actual clients I've had. You've all really made this dream come alive, and it's filled a creative part of my life that I was missing before. My plans/goals for 2009 include taking at least one photography workshop, possibly investing in a new camera, and revamping my website to attract new clients. Keep in mind that these are all pre-new baby goals!! I will just be happy if I can find time to snap a few pictures after the little one arrives, and keep up my other chores...

Emma is the real reason for this post. She's really becoming quite the little model for me, FINALLY! We went down to the Katy Trail this weekend and she was so darn cute. See for yourself...

I'm thinking that these are going to make pretty awesome Christmas cards, so you might see one in your mailbox in the near future!

Lots of busy going on in our world, people. Canada trips for dad, photo gigs for mom, and learning the ABC's for Emma. And that's just a sliver of all the fun lately. I found out last week that I landed a HUMONGOUS photo job. I will be snapping pictures of the WHOLE Mokane Summer League baseball teams. Yes, you heard right, ALL 15 TEAMS. WhooHuuu! and CHA-CHING were some of the first words to come shooting out of my mouth. So this exciting little jobby will keep me very entertained and turn me into a slight mad-woman for the next few weeks.

Okay, so people have been asking me, "where's Emma?" Well, I'll let you in on a little secret. Emma has a bad case of P.C.S., also known as Photographer's Child Syndrome. She's showing all the classic symptoms: making dirty faces at the camera, charging and attempting to swat the camera out of Mommy's hand, then ultimately running away and refusing to acknowledge any sort of sweet-photo-memory-making-opportunity. Booooo!! However, this morning I felt it was high time that I try to cure her of this nasty disease. So with my candy-bribery in hand, I approached Emma and asked to her come along with Mommy and the evil camera. She happily took the candy and we headed for the backyard. Unfortunately, her symptoms almost immediately started to appear...

As you can see, it looks like my therapy session was unsuccessful. I ended up with ONE measly, half-a-smile shot. But its a keeper!

I have an announcement!!! Drum roll, please....... My website is complete! Well, I think it will always be a "work-in-progress," but at least it's now online for all the world to see! Yipee! OMGosh, this little dream is FINALLY coming true! It's so amazing that someone actually asked me to take pictures of their children. This was my first real gig, and it was pretty freakin' fabulous! I've totally found my calling, people. I had so much freaking fun today with Kali, my soon-to-be sis-in-law (well, they aren't engaged YET, but might as well be). She's totally hip and laid-back, and was gracious enough to be my modeling ginuea pig. We scouted some random spots in Mokane, and it was such a blast. Thanks Kali!

Spring is finally here! The flowers are sprouting and the grass is green. Hooray! Here's pics from this week of Emma picking some of spring's newest arrivals.

What's in the plastic bag, you ask? Oh, it's just Emma's newest pet, her WORM that she found on the playground at school. Oh joy. She just couldn't part with it (i.e. she had a major meltdown when I refused to let her bring it in the car), so we had to load it up into a baggy with some rocks & dirt so it would feel right at home.

First Hair Cut!

The time has come. I had been putting off Emma's first hair cut for months. Her poor, shabby, stringy, straggly hair (okay, it didn't look THAT bad) finally saw their first pair of scissors. I thought that she better have a trim before she turns two! I was nervous as hell, and she was a perfect angel (shocking, I know!). This was a huge deal for me. I just can't get over the fact that my child is old enough for hair cuts now. Thankfully, the whole episode went down so smoothly, and was over in about 10 minutes. Of course, I had to whip out my camera and act like the crazy, can't-miss-a-moment-gotta-take-a-picture-obsessed-mom.

We had 2 birthday parties this weekend! Crazy, I know. I had to be careful not to accidently overdose on cake and ice cream. Here's my cute little nephew Easton, who turned 2. He and Emma are only 3 weeks apart!

Love, love, love shopping for bargains. It's an addiction, really. To buy something marked down that I know others have paid full-price for just gives me the best high ever. Is this healthy?? Actually, I try not to buy any clothing/accessories/shoes that aren't on sale, because it all gets red-tagged eventually. So I was browsing at Old Navy today for Emma and just couldn't turn down this adorable hat ($3.99, thank you very much). Of course it made me rush home and take her outside for a little modeling.

The grass is turning green!! Yipee!!

On another note, you may have noticed that I've changed my logo (again, I know my decision-making skills are ridiculous). I'm trying out a new name also! Yes, Leigh is my middle name and I think it has a much better ring to it than "Stieferman." Sort of rolls off the tongue a little easier, you think? So we'll see how long it takes me to get sick of this one, but hopefully the new name will be a keeper.
Also, I've really been disgruntled with Blogger lately. I hate how it posts pictures so small and the color is not at all accurate. I've been trying to decide if I want to switch to something different like Typepad. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'll have to do some research and make ANOTHER painful decision about this... geez.

My search for a new camera bag is over! I looked high and low for a modern, stylish bag, as I refused to settle for a plain and "old-manish" one. So after hours of Googling "cute camera bags," suddenly heaven sent me to Tracy Joy's website. I fell in love. Then followed the huge debate over fabric choices, to which I finally decided on the bag of my dreams! It's so sweet... Thanks, Tracy! Here's a picture of it sunning out on the front porch, just waiting to be toted around for shoots!

For Animal Lovers Only...

Little known fact: I have a three-legged cat. Yes, it's true. He may look funny or weird to strangers, but to me he's my old pal. Scott brought Jack home 8 years ago as a kitten. It was love at first sight. Back in Jack's younger, friskier days, he loved to prowl the neighborhood. One dreadful night he met his match and wound up with a nasty infection. After numerous failed attempts to heal the leg, the vet sat me down and I was faced with this decision: to let Jack go (R.I.P.) or to remove the infected leg. The decision was easy...

Isn't this little Storyboard of him cute? Check out my link to MCP Actions if you want to explore where I got it. Anyways, Jack is the best three-legged cat ever. Although his surgery wasn't cheap, he was worth every penny. And no, we did not keep the leg and bury it (believe it or not, many people do actually ask this). So here's to handicapped animals! SPECIAL POST ALERT... I have to post these pics for all my friends and family who know Scott. His little brother Landie was over visiting us and showing off his new "letter jacket." He is a junior in high school, and apparently it is still cool to have a letter jacket. I think it made Scott a little reminiscent, so he decided to bust out his old letter jacket from like 1996. Seriously, that's 12 years ago folks. So for those who know Scott, please enjoy! And be sure to make fun of how "young" he looks in his sacred jacket! He hangs it in his closet to remind him of how athletic he USED TO BE. Heehee. Go Big Blue!!

Project Insulation: Completed

Here's new pics of the basement, i.e. future studio. Scott finished stuffing the insulation into the walls and ceiling, so we are now ready for drywall! Yipee! Unfortunately, the construction crew is working on another job at the moment, so it may be a few weeks before they get to our house.

EMMA PHOTO OF THE DAY: Emma and her Big Girl Bed! Yes, we discovered that she was crawling out of her crib, so we decided to take off the front to avoid any future trips to the E.R. She was super excited about her new bed, so hopefully this transition will be a sinch. HOPEFULLY....

Also, you may have noticed yet another NEW LOGO. I think I really like this one. It may require a little more tweaking, but I love the font and design. What do you think? I wish I could afford to blow a couple hundred and just pay a pro to whip up an awesome logo for me.

Here's an update on my future in-home studio... the electrical work -done. the plumbing - done. the framing - done. the drywall - next. the paint - after that. my successful little biz exploding - soon!!!!

This home improvement project has been all too easy. Perhaps because we are not lifting a finger and blowing our cash to have someone else do the crap work. This is the first time we've actually PAID someone to do something house-related. We usually call on good ol' DAD to do our handy-man jobs. He's done like 50 million projects for us. He's the best.

Those 4 huge plastic bags are filled with insulation. We will be attempting to do this ourselves to save a few bucks. Well, actually, Scott will be doing this.... insulation stuffing is not in my repertoire.

On the far right we have the future bathroom. It's going to also serve as a client clothes changing/hair primping/make-up checking room.

In other news, Emma made a lamb mask at school today. You know, for the whole "in like a lion, out like a lamb" fable. Except instead of sounding like a little lamb, she wanted to roar like a lion. Have you ever seen a cuter green-faced lamb? LOVE IT.

Of course I took like a zillion pictures this weekend with my new lens. Seriously, I believe my last count was 168. Thank the good Lord for digital photography!! So here are some others I just couldn't part ways with. The last few include Emma's first trip to the sandbox, or "b-box" as she calls it. She cried when it was time to leave and I had fun scraping the sand out of her carseat, shoes and hair.

It's HERE!! My new "baby" has arrived!! Yes, I'm the proud owner of a brand-spankin' new Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens. That's probably Greek to most of my readers. So let's put it this way: new lens=fabulous pics=the start of my career=my dream come true=my birthday/anniversary/Christmas present. Any way you put it, this new lens rocks!!!

Here's a quick story of our fishing trip today. It was windy, but the 70 degrees was a taste of spring to come. Emma had fun throwing the fish in the bucket and she reeked of smelly fish and dirt when we got home. Ahhh, the country life!

I decided that I just couldn't take it any longer. I had to release some of this photog energy that has been stored up all winter. So this afternoon we bundled up and braved the elements. As soon as Emma's nose started to turn red (which didn't take long) we headed inside, where she finished off her candy stick.
